How to Improve your Property’s EPC Rating

Every home in the UK sits on a scale of energy efficiency known as an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate), and your energy rating can have a significant impact on your expenses. Ratings go from A down to G, with the latter being the worst possible situation.

In its most basic terms, the poorer your EPC rating, the higher your energy costs.

But, if yours is in one of the lower bands, what can you do about it?

One of the key indicators of a poor energy rating is related to poor insulation. Loft insulation is easy to have installed and is relatively inexpensive compared with how much it could reduce your overall monthly bills. Similarly, installing wall insulation will also improve your rating.

If you don’t already have double glazing on your windows and doors, now might be the time to invest. Not only will this improve your property’s energy efficiency, but it will also make your windows more secure and reduce the volume of outside noise.

Finally, consider having your old boiler replaced with a new, more energy-efficient model. This will both increase your energy efficiency, once again cutting bill, and also make the day-to-day running and heating of your home a little easier.
