Moving? Here are the things you might not have thought about

If you’re moving house soon, you’re probably a little pre-occupied with making sure everything in place and timed perfectly with your buyers and sellers. But, a move isn’t just about going from one property to another. There is a more to consider.

Our advice is to create a checklist to keep track of every detail, such as the following:

Make sure you hand in your notice in plenty of time if you’re leaving rented accommodation.

Take a look around your whole house before booking a removals service, as they’ll need an estimate of how much you’d like to move. This could be the perfect opportunity to declutter. You might also consider storing certain items or moving them yourself, especially valuables and important documents that you can’t afford to go missing.

Make sure you’ve confirmed your child’s new school placement before the move, and be sure to book any furry friends into kennels or a cattery (or friend’s house) so they don’t get in the way whilst you’re packing and loading.

Update your address details with everyone you can possibly think of, but make certain you don’t forget your local council, employer, GP, utility companies, the DVLA and Inland Revenue.

Make sure you have one box or bag containing all the essentials for your first night in your new home. The last thing you need after unloading is to have to trek out to the shops or unpack all your boxes to find your toothbrush, bedding or pyjamas.
